The Mission Statement of the Hoover Service Club calls for the annual recognition of a Hoover resident for outstanding volunteer service. The annual Flora Mae Pike Hoover Community Service Award is presented to a deserving individual in May.

Flora Mae Pike Hoover Community Service Award – 2016-2017

This years’ winner is a Hoover Service Club member and has served on the scholarship and hospitality committees, is a past president and was a gala/ways and means chair.

She is known as the Gardening Granny at Riverchase Elementary School where she started the outdoor garden classes and continues to teach 12 classes each semester.

She is a Master gardener and volunteers at Aldridge Gardens in the gift shop.

She is a member of the Hoover Beautification Board and works on various committees including Moss Rock Festival, annual city hall Christmas decorations, Arbor Day, Hazardous Waste Day, and the Mayor’s  Prayer Breakfast.

She is active in the Bread and Roses and Outreach ministry at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
