Two of the key components of the Hoover Service Club’s Mission is to give aid to the needy and to promote increased knowledge of the community’s needs and fulfill them within the realm of the interests of the organization. To accomplish this, the Community Service committee is charged with identifying areas of need within the community and recommending how the Community Service budget will be distributed each year. The committee makes distributions in September, January and May.
During 2017, $23,000 was distributed to the following organizations:
- Project Life Saver
- Hoover Library Children’s Program
- Autism Society of Alabama
- Grace House
- Kid One Transport
- Lovelady Center
- Prescott House
- Safe House
- Alabama Parkinson’s Fighter Walk
- Breast Cancer Research Foundation of AL.
- St. Vincent’s Bruno Cancer Center
- Oak Mountain Missions Ministries, Inc.
- Triumph Services
- Hoover Helps
- Hope for Autumn
- Aldridge Gardens Education Programs
- Focus on Recovery
- Green Valley Baptist United Way Food Bank
- YMCA Summer Camp Tuition
In addition to monetary donations, each month members of the club participate in a service activity such as bringing items for food banks, diapers for Bundles of Joy, making Easter baskets for distribution at Green Valley Baptist United Way Food Bank, and wrapping gifts for Grace House in December.
