Flora Mae Pike Award

At our March 2026 HSC meeting, Flora Mae Pike Community Service Committee Chairs Hope Lawson and Lori Callahan proudly presented the 2026 Flora Mae Pike Community Service Award to Hoover business owner and community volunteer David Cohen. For many years David has given his time, energy and heart without hesitation to make a difference in the Hoover community.

David was a key part of creating the Taste of Hoover fundraising event where 100% of the proceeds to Aldridge Gardens. He is on the Hoover City Schools Foundation, where he and other board members created the Denim & Dining fundraiser which provides grants and funding to Hoover City Schools. David is involved on many levels with the Hoover schools including mentoring students at the R3 Culinary Program, donating 20% of his Small Scoop business proceeds to support bands and other organizations, leading Junior Achievement classes, serving as guest lecturer with the Business Academy and various school’s Gifted Programs and as a judge for various school events. He is also a longtime supporter of the Hope for Autumn foundation. 

David leads with humility and treats everyone with respect. He understands that true service is rooted in compassion and connection. David’s dedication to our community is an inspiration to us all.
